    VEGETANIA

    • Major Alliances: None

    • Major Conflicts: Fructera, Ceresia

    • Neutral with Candia and the Dairy Islands.

    • Vegetania and Fructera's conflict is at the heart of the Ravening War.

    • Opposed to the Meatlands through the Meatland's alliance with Fructera.

    FRUCTERA

    • Major Alliances: Meatlands

    • Major Conflicts: Vegetania, Dairy Islands, Candia

    • Aligned with Ceresia through Ceresia's ally, the Meatlands.

    • Although Fructera's main conflict focuses on Tomaté’s claim to the Vegetanian throne, its allies have involved Fructera in their own conflicts.

    CERESIA

    • Major Alliances: Meatlands

    • Major Conflicts: Vegetania, Candia, Dairy Islands

    • Ceresia's democratic Senate has been overtaken by an imperialist semi-dictator. Uneasily allied with the Meatlands, it seeks conquest of neighboring territories. Temporarily aligned with Fructera through their alliance with the Meatlands and their mutual adversary Candia.

    MEATLANDS

    • Major Alliances: Fructera, Ceresia

    • Major Conflicts: Dairy Islands, Candia

    • The Meatlands are a collection of tribes that span the northern continent atop Calorum. It is uneasily allied with Ceresia.

    DAIRY ISLANDS

    • Major Alliances: Candia

    • Major Conflicts: Fructera, Meatlands, Ceresia

    • As a critical geographic kingdom in Calorum, whoever controls the Dairy Islands controls much of the coastal access to the rest of the continent. Its conflicts are mainly to do with other countries looking to control access to ports rather than any political conflict with the Dairy Islands itself.

    CANDIA

    • Major Alliances: Dairy Islands

    • Major Conflicts: Fructera, Ceresia, Meatlands

    • Candia entered the war with great reluctance after a long neutral period at the start of the war. Its priorities involve defending its ally, the Dairy islands, rebuffing Ceresian imperialist forces, and ending the war.

    MAJOR BATTLES

    • Battle of Vinolia – Count Tomaté has been slain. House Uvano, as the only remaining great house, is emerging as sovereign house of Fructera. With the death of his challenger, Belvedere will be crowned as king of Vegetania. His coronation will be attended by senior Bulbian officials.

    • Siege of Port Béchamel - Ceresia has attacked Port Béchamel in the Dairy Islands, a valuable island historically settled by Ceresians and Dairy Islanders alike. It is also seasonally inhabited by pilgrims of the nomadic Goat Clans. Imperator Foccacia's forces have started a months-long siege to take the settlement as a naval base for themselves. With ships and aid blocked from entering, resources to wait out the invasion are quickly drying up. The ancestral city burns, sowing discord in both the Meatlands and the Dairy Islands.

    RUMOUR HAS IT...

    • ...that Dairy Islanders and Seafood Meatland Tribes have reported sightings of the legendary sea serpent, The Loop Ness Monster, sinking pirate and merchant ships alike. It was last sighted off the coast of Kellogg's Peak. Travel with extreme caution along the coast for the next three months!

    • ...that disgraced Vegetanian houses who supported Tomaté's claim to the throne have fled into the Verduran Forest. Word on the grapevine is they've turned away from the light of the Bulb. Peasants in the surrounding area report disappearing livestock and haunting music late at night. The Church has put a bounty on whoever can find the source of the heresy.

    • ... that following Belvedere's crowning, an ambassador's meeting will be held to discuss an alliance between Imperator Focaccia and King Belvedere. A band of Vegetanian diplomats accompanied by Bulbian priests will meet the Imperator and his court at his summer palace, the Palazzo Brioche. Focaccia has arranged for a munera (gladiator fight) at the Challahseum for the amusement of his guests.

    LAY OF THE LAND

    • Fructera, along with its Meatlander and Ceresian allies, pushed toward the heart of Vegetania at the start of summer. The Vegetanian forces successfully repelled them at the Battle of Vinolia, where Counte Tomaté was slain.

    • Candia is assisting the Dairy Islands, who are being besieged by both Ceresia and Basha's faction of Meatlanders.

    • Tensions are growing between clans of the Meatlands as other nations have difficulty understanding the Meatland's lack of central governance. Meatlanders are being indiscriminately grouped together as one nation despite individual affiliation and alliances.

    • After routing Fructera at the Battle of Vinolia, Belvedere will be crowned King of Vegetania. This ends the initial conflict that ignited the Ravening War. Under Belvedere, Vegetania will soon ally itself with Ceresia and join their imperial conquest.

My sincerest condolences about the death of our Holy Father Clementine III. I never knew him myself - but he was a good, if controversial man. With the papal bull established by our late Pontifex, shall I assume you will be in attendance for the Cornclave in Brightgarden as well? In that case, may the information enclosed in this missive will aid your travels and inform your friends and allies in the days to come. Many national leaders and fellow clergy will be attending the funeral of his Holiness. I hope to see diplomacy prevail. Yet the blood shed over our fair Calorum these last late years leaves me feeling uneasy. It will be an opportunistic time for scavengers, vultures, and the knife-hearted. We have not seen, nor are we likely to see again, a gathering of so many men and women in open conflict with each other since the start of the war.Keep sharp. Stay safe. May the Bulb have mercy on us all.In service and vigilance, on this day of Highharvest, 1194, I remain yours,
    ██████████ █████.

    VEGETANIA

    • Major Alliances: Ceresia

    • Major Conflicts: Fructera

    • Under the newly crowned Beldevere Cabbage, Vegetania allies itself with its former adversary Ceresia to drive the last of the Fructeran forces from its lands. In exchange, Vegetania begins lending its own troops and military strongholds to its imperialist ally for their own agendas.

    FRUCTERA

    • Major Alliances: None

    • Major Conflicts: Vegetania, Dairy Islands, Candia

    • The defeat of Count Tomaté at the battle of Vinola resulted in disarray of Fructera's leadership. The only remaining Fructeran Great House, House Uvano, seems inclined to begin withdrawing from their nation's conflict with Vegetania and the Dairy Islands.

    CERESIA

    • Major Alliances: Vegetania

    • Major Conflicts: Meatlands, Candia, Dairy Islands

    • Ceresia operates under an imperialist semi-dictator. Its former alliance with Meatlander clans are collapsing against the anti-Ceresian leader Basha Myaso. Its former adversary Vegetania has reached out with an offer of alliance.

    MEATLANDS

    • Major Alliances: Fructera

    • Major Conflicts: Ceresia, Dairy Islands, Candia

    • The clan leader Basha Myaso is set to challenge the Speaker of the Hen in combat. A strong leader and widely respected by many clans, this could be the push Basha needs to call for unification of the Meatlands. Clans aligned with Basha begin to move against their former Ceresian allies.

    DAIRY ISLANDS

    • Major Alliances: Candia

    • Major Conflicts: Fructera, Meatlands, Ceresia

    • As a critical geographic kingdom in Calorum, whoever controls the Dairy Islands controls much of the coastal access to the rest of the continent. Its conflicts are mainly to do with other countries looking to control access to ports rather than any political conflict with the Dairy Islands itself.

    CANDIA

    • Major Alliances: Dairy Islands

    • Major Conflicts: Fructera, Ceresia, Meatlands

    • The loss of another one of their princesses on a diplomatic envoy strikes a deep blow to Candia's neutrality. For now, it continues to prioritize defending its ally, the Dairy Islands, and rebuffing Ceresian imperialist forces to the north.

    MAJOR EVENTS

    • Cornclave Announced - Pontifex Clementine III (born Salvo Oleracii) of the Bulbian Church has died. The whole of the Bulbian Church is in mourning, and clergy travel across the nation to attend his funeral. A cornclave has been called for the third week of Highharvest. All members of the College of Chardinals are expected to travel to Brightgarden to attend the election. The archbishop Belizabeth Brassica is widely rumoured to be the popular favourite. She strikes a conservative contrast to the late Clementine III, who was seen as too willing to tolerate apostasies within the church.

    • A Challenge in the Meatlands - Basha Myaso, believing Princess Sapphria of Candia’s death to be a betrayal of hospitality rules, is set to challenge the Speaker of the Hen in combat. A strong leader and widely respected by many clans, this could be the push Basha needs to call for unification of the Meatlands. As a strongly anti-Ceresian advocate, Basha's rise to leadership could spell the end of the Meatland's already-uneasy alliance with their neighbors. Whichever way the challenge goes, the whole of Calorum watches in anticipation.

    RUMOUR HAS IT...

    LAY OF THE LAND

    • Princess Down – On the second week of Harvestdawn, Princess Sapphria of Candia travelled through the Pulp Bay around the Dairy Islands and up the Sangre River to the metropolis of Carn in the Meatlands. She was on a diplomatic mission to meet with the Speaker of the Hen. After their meeting, she was killed by an unknown Vegetanian assassin. Despite Candia's lack of involvement in the war, she is the second of Candia's princesses and the third of the Candian royal family to die.

    • Vegetania & Ceresia Allied; Dairy Islanders Most Affected - With Count Tomaté’s death, Vegetania's challenge to the throne is gone. The nation officially crowns Beldevere Cabbage as rightful king and allies itself with Imperator Focaccia, aiding in Ceresia’s attacks on bordering nations. The combined military might of Calorum’s two largest nations poses a great threat to the rest of the continent. With this newly acquired help, Imperator Focaccia continues his conquest. War ravages the borders of Candia, Fructera, and the Dairy Islands.

    • Have You Heard of the Bulb - The Bulbian Church continues sending missionary aid to places ravaged by the war, spreading their influence across the land. A number of clergy attending missions in hostile nations are pondering whether to attempt the journey back to Vegetania for the funeral of the late Pope.

    • If You're Dead, and He's Vegetanian, Then Who's Driving This Nation? - The defeat of Count Tomaté at the battle of Vinola resulted in disarray of Fructera's leadership. The only remaining Fructeran Great House, House Uvano, has become the de facto leadership. While Uvano seems inclined to begin withdrawing from their nation's conflict with Vegetania and the Dairy Islands, these negotiations will take time.

    • Storm Warning - A great storm from the Outlands is ravaging the Meatlands, killing off many clans' livelihoods and flocks. Desperate for resources to weather the freezerburn, some clans are banding together to attack their former allies - Ceresia and the Dairy Islands - to recoup losses for the winter ahead.

I have given this messenger the last of my jerky, in the hopes of giving it the strength it needs to deliver my missive on its swift wings. Far too many bandits now roam the roads; far too many horses have been eaten by starving couriers. This may be the last message I will be able to send before the long nights of winter set in.It is always the darkest before the dawn. I would truly like to believe that. Yet with the problem of Vegetanian succession resolved, this war seems no closer to churning to an end. Ceresia harries the borders of its neighbors, uncaring of how many casualties are inflicted on both sides. I have heard tales of cannibalism and worse from every nation, even as far south as the Verduran Forest. The holdfasts in Fructera are already strained to capacity; many lords never had the supplies to open a winter town, let alone in the middle of a war.I dream of war's end. I dream of spring. In service and vigilance, on this day of Highfrost, 1194, I remain yours,
    ██████████ █████.

    RUMOUR HAS IT...

    LAY OF THE LAND

    • Aren't We All Food, Anyway? Increased bandit activity in the Dairy Islands and rumours of cannibalism begin to spread along the shores of the Meatlands. Although some of the rumours are owed to national prejudice, the inhabitants of at least one Fructeran village have completely vanished without a trace.

    • Winter reaches further south than it ever has before. The Maesters agree this will be the harshest winter in decades.
